Students pursuing a career as a veterinary technician may prefer to turn to Waco, Texas for the American Veterinary Medical Association-accredited program in Veterinary Technology at McLennan Community College This two-year program leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree which will prepare you for work in veterinary clinics, research facilities, humane society shelters and other animal health centers. Palo Alto Community College in San Antonio is a bit closer to Austin and offers both a veterinary technology degree and a pre-veterinary program. Austin is home to two universities offering bachelors degree with pre-veterinary tracks: the University of Texas, Austin and St. Edward's University You can follow your pre-veterinary degree with post-graduate studies at Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine in Waco, Texas where degree options include small and large animal studies and veterinary physiology and pharmacology.
