Students have several choices in pursuing a foreign language education in Austin. In addition, most schools offer services to ESL (English as a Second Language) students to help with studies. Austin Community College offers degrees in Spanish, French, German, Japanese and Russian Languages as well as sign language interpreter. The University of Texas at Austin offers a wide range of foreign language degrees, including: Spanish, Scandinavian, Slavic, Arabic, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Classical languages and degrees in foreign language and foreign language education. St. Edward's University offers programs in English, Spanish and Bilingual Education. Austin's continuing growth is a good indication of future employment opportunities. Overall job growth is anticipated to reach 18% by the year 2012. With the increased foreign language speaking population, the need for interpreters and translators will increase by 22% in the same time period. Opportunities will continue to grow in the field of education for foreign language teachers, ESL teachers and bilingual teachers.
